It’s Almost Here!
The last time I participated in the Calgary Marathon race weekend was 4 years ago in the half marathon (as shown in the photograph below with my parents). This year, I’m doing the 10K, a distance I haven’t formally raced since 4 years ago as well.
So Becca, why the 10K and not the 5K?
Because why not.
Like the majority of us, my mindset going into this race is not to win it. Due to the knee injury I received back in December as well as the absence of an indoor track season, I’ve lost a lot of strength in my left knee. I couldn’t put any pressure on it until January and I didn’t started running on it again until February.
Injuries: they happen unfortunately.
Embrace your Inner Superhero
Despite all of these circumstances, I’m still racing the 10K anyway. Because racing is a physical endeavour I personally enjoy!
I’m really excited for the Calgary Marathon because I’ll get to see many of my friends from November Project, track and field, Running Room, and from the Calgary road racing scene in general. I have a few friends that will be running as well as cheering on at various aid stations throughout the course.
I also enjoy the feeling of pushing my physical limits. It’s like I’m a superhero, which coincidentally happens to be the theme of the Calgary Marathon this year: embracing your inner superhero.
Whether you’re running 5K, 50K, or the distances in between, I wish all of you participating in the Calgary Marathon this year the best of luck, a fun race, and an overall enjoyable experience.
Until next time, gotta run!
